Corsicana’s Denbow new RISD interim
‘Near full-time’ job for ex-superintendent, city councilman to begin on August 19
A fixture in Corsicana school and city life for almost 40 years, Don Denbow was selected Monday as the interim superintendent for the Rockdale ISD.
Denbow, a retired superintendent, was hired in a unanimous vote by RISD trustees after a marathon five-hour session in which four candidates for the interim job were interviewed. Full Story
Little River running Cameron hospital
Temporary for now; more ‘clarity’ after hearing on Aug. 2
Little River Healthcare Systems, the Rockdale-based company which runs the local hospital and clinics, is now operating Cameron’s troubled Central Texas Hospital.
The situation is currently temporary but that might change after an Aug. 2 hearing in 20th District Court at which the next step in the increasingly- complicated legal struggle will be played out. Full Story

City of Thorndale fires police chief in 4-1 split vote
The City of Thorndale is looking for a new police chief after Fred Keefer, who has held the posi t ion for nine years, was fired Tuesday.
Council members voted 4-1 to terminate Keefer following a public hearing in which several residents spoke in his behalf, saying the police chief inspired trust in the community. Full Story

Milam’s burn ban remains after 4-1 vote
The rural outdoor burn ban will remain in effect in Milam County after a vote Monday by county commissioners.
Commissioners court voted 4-1 to continue the ban, which was enacted on July 8.
Monday’s action came at the request of the Milam County Fire Chief’s Association which recommended the ban not be lifted. Full Story
