Milam’s burn ban remains after 4-1 vote

The rural outdoor burn ban will remain in effect in Milam County after a vote Monday by county commissioners.

Commissioners court voted 4-1 to continue the ban, which was enacted on July 8.

Monday’s action came at the request of the Milam County Fire Chief’s Association which recommended the ban not be lifted.

Voting in favor of keeping the ban were County Judge Dave Barkemeyer and commissioners Kenneth Hollas (Precinct 2), John Fisher (Precinct 3) and Jeff Muegge (Precinct 4).

Precinct 1 Commissioner Chuck “Tank” Balch voted against (in favor of lifting the ban).

When burn bans are lifted, only the rural areas of the county are affected.

Milam municipalities have their own, permanent, outdoor burning bans, covering actions with their municipal limits.
