Schaefer named All-State

King also on Texas Sportswriters Class A team


Thorndale shortstop Riley Schaefer has made two All- State teams. 
Reporter/Teresa Ging Thorndale shortstop Riley Schaefer has made two All- State teams. Reporter/Teresa Ging Thorndale’s Riley Schaefer was named honorable mention Class A All-State at shortstop on the 2013 Texas Spor tsw r iters A ssociation team.

Schaefer was named third team on the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association squad.

Schaefer, a senior-to-be, led the Bulldogs back to the playoffs after a two-year absence.

He batted .411 (39- 95), with 41 runs, 14 doubles, 5 triples, 34 RBIs, .517 on-base average and a .929 fielding average.

Schaefer was recently named to the Austin American-Statesman’s top 50 area athletes.

Schaefer made f irst- team all- district in football, basketball and baseball during the 2012-13 school year.

Mumford pitcher Aubrie King, who resides in Milano, also gained honorable mention honors.

K ing went 5- 3 w ith a 1.00 earned run average. King was the Class A player of the year in basketball.

The Mumford baseball program is in its third year of exsistence.
