Police probe theft reports

Rockdale police investigated the death of a two-year-old girl last week that ended with a murder charge. See page 1A.

In much less serious matters, police also investigated two incidents of shoplifting, the thefts of a game console and sunglasses and a gas drive-off.

A criminal mischief incident involved a door being kicked in.

ACCIDENTS—Two vehicle accidents were investigated during the past week.

Police said vehicles operated by Robert Demoss of Taylor and John Cone of Smithville were i collision at 12:20 p.m. July 31 in the 500 block of West Cameron (US 79).

Minor damages were reported to both vehicles.

An accident was reported at 2:50 p.m. Friday in the Tetco parking lot.

Police listed drivers as Christy Lovett and Renee Serna, both or Rockdale. Damage estimates were not available from police.

CITATIONS—Traffic citations issued during the week included 27 for speeding, five for running a stop sign, three each for no MVI inspection sticker and driving while license invalid and one each for defective tail lamp, expired driver’s license, failure to maintain financial responsibility, no driver’s license, no seat belt and operating a vehicle with expired license plate.

SERVICE CALLS— Of f icer s responded to 156 service calls during the past week, and 115 calls were received through the 911 system.
