Storey

Services for Marie Gross Storey, 87, were held Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2013, at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale with Rev. Russ Willis of Meadowbrook Baptist Church officiating. Burial followed in IOOF Cemetery in Rockdale.

Ms. Storey died Saturday, Aug. 3, in a Round Rock hospital.

She was born Dec. 28, 1925 in Rockdale to Oscar H. and Zanell (Walker) Gross.

Ms. Storey was a secretary for the Johnson Space Center and raised her family in the Houston/ Clear Lake area.

She lived in Austin for a while before coming to Rockdale nine years ago.

Ms. Storey worked as a oil field camp cook and sold paramutual tickets at Manor Downs in Manor.

Her memberships included Meadowbrook Baptist Church, Order of the Eastern Star, FOE (Fraternal Order of Eagles), DAR, DRT, Milam County Genealogy Society and Rockdale Historical Society.

She was also active with the Rockdale Senior Citizens Center in Rockdale

Ms. Storey was preceded in death by a son, Ronald Dean Storey, her parents, and a sister, Julia Ann Duke.

Survivors include a son, Westley “Lee” Storey and wife Rosie of Pflugerville; two grandchildren, Ashley Marie Storey of Pflugerville, JohnMichael Dean Storey of Galveston; and two brothers, Charles Gross and his wife Linda of Marietta, Georgia, W.C. Bill Gross and wife Barbara of Rockdale.

Pallbearers were Ron Montgomery, Ralph Czimisky, David Phillips, Jerry McPeek, Carl Hudson and JohnMichael Dean Storey.

The burn ban for Milam County has been lifted. Burning is always prohibited in the county's municipalities.
