Alumni tournament raises $5,000 for RHS golf program

New junior golf tourney kicks off annual event

Fifty seven players and many sponsors helped raise $5,000 for the RHS golf program during the third annual alumni and friends golf tournament held July 27 at the Rockdale Country Club. The event was sponsored by the club’s Mens Golf Association.

Organizer Allan Jones said this year’s tourney raised double the amount from the 2012 event. In its three year run, the alumni and friends golf tourney has raised $8,400 for the RHS golf program.

A junior golf tournament featuring 17 golfers was held that morning before the start of the main event.

The winning team of Tucker Tovar, Brady Nelson, Devon Whitsel, Eve King and Lyndy Laurell scored two under par.

After a seven hole “sudden death” playoff, first place honors in the golf scramble went to Ben Ackley, Daniel Guerra, Joe Tovar, Randy Laurell and Paul Marburger.

The score of 12 under par 60 tied the first two teams.

Af ter a one hole playof f between three teams, third place went to the team of Duncan Campbell, Brian Jones, David Summers, Nathan Bland and Roy Simpson. They scored 11 under par to tie for that third place spot.

The other teams at 11 under was Kirk Williams, David Martin, George Malone, Ronnie Leggett, Brady Nelson and James Doss, and John Krause, Waylon Boyd, Frank Rubio, Alan Johnston, John Shoemake and Angela Moore.

Awards also went out to Amy Caffey (longest drive), Lisa Greenway (most accurate drive) and Homer Mowdy and Paul Marburger (closest to the pin).
