Small indicted for capital murder

Woman accused in death of two-year-old

A 54-year-old Rockdale woman accused of causing the death of a two-year-old girl in her foster care has been indicted for capital murder.

Sherill Small was indicted Thursday by a Milam County Grand Jury, according to Prosecutor Bill Torrey.

The indictment comes two weeks after Small was arrested by Rockdale Police and charged with murder in connection with the death of Alexandria "Alex" Hill.

Police said Small admitted slamming the child onto the floor while "playing a game" at the San Jacinto Street home in Rockdale where she kept foster children. That incident occurred July 29. The child died two days later in a Temple hospital after being taken off life support.

Capital murder, which can carry the death penalty, is applicable in Texas only under certain circumstances, one of which is when the charge involves a child under 10.
