Sixth grade orientation, schedule pick up Aug. 20

An orientation meeting for Rockdale Junior High sixth grade parents has been set from 5:30-7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 20 in the RJH commons area.

Sixth grade students will pick up their schedules and walk through a mini-class schedule.

Seventh grade students may pick up their schedules from 8 a.m. to noon and 1-4 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 22.

Eighth grade students may do so at those same times on Friday, Aug. 23.

The first official day of school is Monday, Aug. 26.

Freshman orientation for RHS set Aug. 20th

Rockdale High School will hold a Freshman Orientation and Parent Night from 6-7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 20. This event replaces the annual “Fish Camp” held for incoming RHS ninth graders.

Teachers and administrators will be available to answer questions and provide information relating to high school success. RHS upperclassmen will be available in the Rotunda to lead campus tours.

Also, The Freshmen Teacher Team will provide detailed information including behavior expectations, dress code, the appropriate use of technology and an introduction to Project Based Learning during the first day of school which is Monday, Aug. 26.

Rockdale Elementary Open House is Aug. 22

Rockdale Elementary will hold its Open House for the 2013-2014 school year starting at 5 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 22.

Everyone is to meet in the RES gym for a short orientation and then parents and students will be released to the classrooms.

RIS open house Aug. 22

Rockdale Intermediate School will hold an open house from 5:30-7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 22.

Students may bring their supplies to put in their classrooms that evening.

RHS student schedule pick up set Aug. 22nd

Students at Rockdale High School may pick up schedules from 1-4 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 22 in the high school rotunda.

The high school office will be closed Monday, Aug. 19 and Tuesday, Aug. 20 for district training.

Rockdale VFW holding school supplies drive

Rockdale VFW Post 6525 and its Ladies Auxiliary are now accepting donations for a school supplies drive. Donations can be dropped off at the VFW Post, 978 US Highway 79, or mailed to LA VFW, PO Box 186, Rockdale TX 76567.

The supplies will be distributed on Tuesday, Aug. 20 at the post hall.

Bulldog Band fish fry fund-raiser Aug. 18th

THORNDALE— A fish fry dinner and silent auction for the Thorndale Bulldog Band will be held at 11 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 18 at the Thorndale Fireman’s Hall, according to spokesperson Starla Hall.

Menu includes fried catfish, beans, noodles, coleslaw, bread, pickles, onions and dessert for $8 per plate. Dine in or take out available. Proceeds to benefit the Bulldog Band.

TAKS exit level retest set for October 21-24

Rockdale High School will offer the TAKS Exit Level Exams in October 2013 for out-of-school (OOS) examinees. Tests dates are Oct. 21 (ELA), Oct. 22 (Math), Oct. 23 (Science) and Oct. 24 (Social Studies), according to RISD testing coordinator Lynette Guerra.

Individuals who are no longer enrolled in school and who have not previously met minimum expectations on all sections of the TAKS test, but who have met all other graduation requirements, may register to retake the necessary sections(s). All out-ofschool TAKS examinees must complete an online registration process.

Out-of-school examinees may register online at http://www.TexasAssessment.com/ TAKSoos. Registration is open now and will end at 5 p.m. Sept. 13.

Examinees may also register the day of the test.

All out-of-school TAKS examinees should notify the high school counselors of their intent to test at 512- 430-6140.

On the day(s) of testing, examinees should arrive by 8 a.m. and report to the high school office. Examinees must present picture identification, such as a driver’s license, school ID, DPS ID, etc. to test. Examinees will not be able to take the test(s) without a picture ID.
