Negotiation okayed in closed session
In the kind of hush-hush atmosphere generally reserved for high-level corporate boardrooms, the Rockdale City Council Monday okayed pursuing a land purchase to try and attract a business to town.
The name of the business wasn’t revealed and that’s not a surprise. It’s likely no more than a handful of people in Texas even know its identity. Full Story

That “target” which had been on the back of the Rockdale ISD for two years is gone.
New state accountability scores, released Thursday by the Texas Education Association, showed Rockdale met standards in all four “performance indexes” based on the State of Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (STAAR) tests. Full Story

Monday was supposed to have been the deadline for owners of the Cameo Building to brace the facade of the downtown structure or risk an order to demolish it.

Hospital suicide victim had Milam County roots
Attorney shot self after wife gave birth
A 32-year-old Houston attorney, whose suicide in his wife’s hospital room after she gave birth Sunday made worldwide headlines, went to school in Rockdale and Milano.
Houston police said Michael Carl Nobles shot himself with a handgun Sunday afternoon in the Willowbrook Methodist Hospital room of his wife, Kendra Nobles, who had given birth earlier in the day. Full Story

Steelworkers picnic ahead on Saturday
The annual United Steelworkers Local 4895 picnic is set for Saturday at The Ranch off US 79 west in Rockdale, according to David Edmonds, spokesman.
Edmonds said the picnic will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Full Story
