Annual ‘Meet the Eagles’ event set for Aug. 21 at all campuses

The annual “Meet the Eagles” night at Milano ISD has been set for Wednesday, Aug. 21. Students and parents can come meet their child’s teachers starting at 6 p.m. on each campus. Elementary students may bring their supplies to the classrooms that evening.

Everyone is then invited to the MHS Gym for introductions of the football, volleyball and cross country teams, along with the cheerleaders. The annual cake/pie auction will also be held.

Milano Athletic Booster Club will serve hamburgers at the gym concession stand starting at 6:30 p.m. This is always a fun event to get the school year started.

First day of classes is Monday, Aug. 26.

Want to see a great country music show, then go see the Milano Opry on Saturday, Aug. 17. The show takes place at Milano High School with doors opening at 6 p.m. and the show starting at 7 p.m.

Special guests this month are Dennis Ivey, Kevin Carter and Becky Woolf. House band members are Billy Barnett, Michael Herod, Ab Woods, Michael Wall, Lynn Martin, Kevin Carter, Johnny Foster and Donny White as emcee.

Admission is $7, children 10 and under are free. Concessions will be open serving hamburgers, barbecue sandwiches and homemade pies. Net proceeds go towards scholarships for Milano graduates.

Kristi’s Krusaders will hold their fourth annual MS Rally bike run on Saturday, Sept. 14 at Nat’s in Milano. Registration will open at 9 a.m. with first bike out 11 a.m. and last bike in at 4 p.m. Ride fee is $20 for rider and $25 with passenger that also includes a barbecue meal when you return from the ride. Stops and sponsors for this year’s ride are Burnouts in Somerville, Cyndi’s Hawg Hang Out in Hogg, The Ranch in Rockdale and Nat’s in Milano.

Barbecue plates will be sold to the public starting at noon. A live auction will begin at 5 p.m. The group will also have a bike show, silent auction and door prizes, as well as event T-shirts for sale that day. After the auction, live music will be provided by Full House Blues Band. This fund-raiser is for a 501c3 organization so come on out and help raise money to find a cure for Multiple Sclerosis. The Milano Ex-Students Association reunion and luncheon will be held Saturday, Sept. 28 at Milano High School. A catered meal by The Crossing will be served at noon. FMI on the reunion, contact Carolyn Hafley, 512-455-2473.
