County budget should cover first murder trial
Official seeks change in layoff salary plan
CAMERON— After months of planning concerning the Brandon Cotton murder trial, set to start in October, Milam County thinks it has enough in its 2013-14 budget to cover expenses.
County Judge Dave Barkemeyer told a regular meeting of county commissioners Monday the budget should take care of the estimated $300,000 in additional expenses for the trial. Full Story
City workshop to deal with budget issues
Rockdale city council members will meet in a workshop session at 5:30 p.m. Thursday in City Hall to discuss the proposed 2013-14 budget and amendments to the 2012-13 budget.

Six draw court terms
CAMERON—Six persons were sentenced in 20th District Court last week, according to Prosecutor Bill Torrey who listed them as follows:
• Jordan DeShawn Deary, 20, Rockdale, pleaded guilty to a lesser included Class A misdemeanor, attempted unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, 70-day county jail term. Full Story
The name of a pit orchestra trumpeter in the recent production of “South Pacific” was incorrectly listed in a Reporter story last week. Geritt Davenport’s name was listed as “David” Davenport. Full Story
Aggravated assault charge follows threat
Rockdale Police filed an aggravated assault charge last week as the result of an incident in which a female was threatened with a knife.
Vincent C. Sorrells, 24, was arrested by Ofc. Tommy Shriver after a “ family issue” around noon last Wednesday (Aug. 7), according to Lt. J. D. Newlin. Full Story
Unique arrest for Milam Game Warden Sunday
It was one of the more unique arrests for Milam County on Sunday.
Game Warden Charlie Mayer filed charges on a 53-year- old Temple resident for using an aircraft to manage wildlife without a permit.
Richard Lynn Pot ts was charged with three counts of that offense, along with two counts of criminal trespass.
He was released after posting bond totaling $19,000. Full Story

A block of Meadow Drive has been closed, off and on, for parts of two weeks but the street project came to an end Tuesday. Scooter Lindholm, Rockdale Public Works director, said the city was smoothing over a number of trenches left by recent utility work. Full Story

Restoration work has begun on the I&GN Depot-Museum’s 70-year-old dining car. Museum director Bert Dockall (L) watches James Moore work on a window of the Cheyenne Mountain, built in 1942 for the Missouri-Pacific Railroad. “The railroad only had two dining cars with names and this was one,” Dockall said. Troopers called to two area crashes
State troopers were called to a pair of motor vehicle accidents over the past week in the Rockdale area.
Trooper Erik Gaston said vehicles operated by Dominic Lamia, 32, of Thorndale, and 44-yearold Rhonda Jordan of Lexington were in collision at 9:25 a.m. Saturday on County Road 455 south of Thorndale.
J0rdan refuse treatment at the scene and Lamia was not injured, he said. Full Story
