BACK TO LIFE—
Restoration work has begun on the I&GN Depot-Museum’s 70-year-old dining car. Museum director Bert Dockall (L) watches James Moore work on a window of the Cheyenne Mountain, built in 1942 for the Missouri-Pacific Railroad. “The railroad only had two dining cars with names and this was one,” Dockall said. The car is being restored with grant funds. Dockall said the ultimate goal is to contract with a restaurant to open a snack bar or other food service establishment in the car. Workers hope to have phase one restoration complete by Rockdale’s annual Christmas celebration the first weekend in December.
