Offense sticks to basics while defense learns new style
While the opening day of the regular season is Friday, Aug. 30, when the Tigers host Salado with a 7:30 kickoff, Rockdale has a couple of scrimmages set up before then and the first one is on tap Friday when the Tigers travel to Marlin for a 7:45 p.m. start.
Big Blue will mix it up again at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 22 when they will host Robinson. Full Story

Milano spikes Lady Tigers in season opener
Morehead, Lady Eagles rally with new rotation
Rockdale dropped its season opener to Milano in straight sets 25-14, 25-18, 25-19 Tuesday night at Tiger Gymnasium.
The Lady Tigers trailed the entire first game, but found a few holes in Milano’s defense in the second game.
Rockdale’s middle game came together behind the hitting of Shelby Evans and Dae Dae Robertson, extending their lead to 9-5 at one point. Full Story

Area Class A teams Thorndale and Milano are two teams that are definitely in different places.
Thorndale is a top 25 team with 12 returning starters, most at skill positions, including senior quarterback Riley Schaefer who re-wrote the Bulldogs’ passing record section in 2012, with 2,100 yards and 26 touchdown passes. Full Story

MILANO—In her 20th season as the head coach in Milano, Wendy King will look to take her team to the state volleyball playoffs for the 14th straight year.
This season, King will look to replace three starters due to graduation, including last year’s district MVP. Full Story

Thorndale roster depleted by graduation
THORNDALE—Lady Dogs’ head coach Lisa Coelho, in her fourth year, will have to replace all but one spot on her varsity roster, after graduating nine seniors off last year’s bi-district champion squad.
Nine seniors are gone from last season’s 25-7 team that earned co-district and bi-district titles before falling in the area round of the playoffs. Full Story
Vickers, Lone Stars earn Senior Games title
CLEVELAND, OH—Refusing to go away, the Texas Lone Stars collected another gold medal at the Senior Games.
The Lone Stars captured first place by defeating the Rochester Immortalls 39-36 in the finals of the 70+ basketball division.
They defeated teams from Makoa and Missouri to reach the finals after advancing out of pool play. Full Story
Neuendorff, Texas East earn World Series trip
COLUMBUS—Texas East earned a berth in the Junior Softball World Series in Kirtland, WA. and a member of the team has local ties.
