COLUMBUS—Texas East earned a berth in the Junior Softball World Series in Kirtland, WA. and a member of the team has local ties.
Outfielder Traci Neuendorff is the daughter of 1979 Rockdale graduate Sandy Vogepohl and her husband Randy.
Neuendorff, who is 14 and will enter the eighth grade this year, is also the grandaughter of Rockdale residents Bill and Janelle Vogepohl.
Texas East, based out of Columbus, entered the World Series with a 23-1 record and will compete in pool play with teams from Mexico, Italy and New Jersey.
Former Tiger standout Farr dies at age 62
Randy Farr, a former Rockdale basketball standout, has passed away after a lengthy illness at age 61.
Farr was the top scorer and rebounder for the 1969 Tigers, averaging 14 points a game in the first and a rare losing season (15-18) for Coach Duane Vincent.
Farr also accounted for one of the top rebounding efforts in Tiger history with 17 boards against Cameron.
At 6-foot-2, Farr was the Tigers’ postman and was forced to deal with area centers such as 6-foot-9 Bruce Featherston of Taylor and 6-foot-8 Robert White of Hearne.
In one district outing, Farr outscored Featherston 27-19.
Farr was a first-team all-district selection in 1969.
Stutzman hits hole-inone at Rockdale CC
John Stutzman, of Rockdale, hit a hole-in-one on Aug. 1 at the Rockdale Country Club.
Stutzman hit the lucky shot on the 14th hole from 150 yards using a five-wood.
The shot was witnessed by Leon Hammett.
‘Meet the Bulldogs’ set Aug. 15 at THS gym
THORNDALE—The Thorndale Athletic Booster Club will host a “Meet the Bulldogs” night starting at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 15 in the high school gym, according to spokesperon Tonya Sumner.
THS coaches and players from the football, volleyball and cross country teams, along with members of the band and cheerleading squad will be introduced.
There will be a live cake auction, flags, blankets and football T-shirts for sale.
