Milano ISD ready for new year

By ROBERT WESTBROOK
Superintendent, Milano ISD

School is just around the corner. I hope everyone has had a relaxing and enjoyable summer spending time with family and friends. Summer is a great time for rejuvenation in preparation for the new school year.

The school year is ready to be kicked off on Monday, Aug. 26 highlighting the Class of 2014. We have a great group of seniors that I am confident will be positive leaders in our school and we are looking forward to having a great year with them leading the way.

Our teachers have been working hard in preparation for the new school year, preparing fun and meaningful lessons for our students. We realize the intensity of our state assessments and are well prepared to make the necessary changes in our curriculum to enable our students to experience success. I can assure every parent that our faculty and staff are committed to working in collaboration with you to continue to create a nurturing, disciplined, and challenging environment in which all or our students can learn. I encourage parents to become involved in their child’s education by visiting our schools, holding conferences with our teachers and speaking to their children about the importance of an education. I urge community members to become involved in our schools, as you are a valuable resource to us.

We have a talented, dedicated staff that is working through a rigorous training schedule this week. The State of Texas requires annual training in a variety of areas, including our special education and our gifted and talented programs. We will spend time analyzing data and aligning the curriculum in staff and departmental meetings.
