LRHC in talks on Cameron hospital

Officials of Rockdale-based Little River Health Care are in negotiations to operate the troubled Central Texas Hospital in Cameron permanently.

A twice-delayed 20th District Court hearing on the status of the 34-bed facility has been twice delayed and is now scheduled for Aug. 30.

Little River has been operating CTH since July 19 in the wake of charges involving Dr. Tariq Mahmoud, who owned several medical facilities, including the Cameron hospital.

If an agreement can be reached it’s anticipated Little River would be a tenant operating the Cameron facility, but the building would continue to be owned by CTH.

Troy Zinn of Little River Health Care is serving as interim administrator of CTH.
