Aerial hog hunting arrest stemmed from complaints

The arrest of a Temple-based helicopter pilot earlier this month was linked to complaints from Milam landowners over feral hog hunting from the air.

As was reported in last week’s Reporter, 53-year- old Richard Lynn Potts was charged with three counts of using a helicopter to manage wildlife without a permit and two counts of criminal trespass.

He was released after posting $19,000 bail.

According to the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department’s Temple office, “ multiple complaints” were filed in connection with the incident.

Potts said he had permission from landowners in four counties, noting a group of farmers had paid for helicopter time to f ly perons being trained for a U. S. Department of Interior program for aerial capture, eradication and tagging of animals program.
