Kilroy puzzle solved
The “Kilroy was Here” column by Bill Cooke answered a 40-plusyear old question for me.
Being a political science/history major in college during the early 1970s, I ran into quite a few cartoons depicting the Kilroy image. Most of the settings were of World War II nature.
Af ter asking those who I thought might know what the image was about and not getting an answer, I stopped asking.
Believe it or not, the Beetle Bailey comic strip in my newspaper today depicts the “Kilroy was Here” image on the side of Sarge’s jeep.
Thanks to your article, I now know the history behind the image. “Better late than never” as we used to say in the home delivery newspaper business.

P.S.—Late home delivery didn’t happen very often, thanks to all those people responsible for producing a Reporter each and every week.
Editor’s note: The George and Chris Wall family, including sons George Jr. and Keith and daughter Diane, delivered The Reporter through the 1950s and well into the 1960s.
