Council to set tax rate, utility fees Thursday
The Rockdale City Council will vote on setting its 2013-14 tax rate, along with water and wastewater fees during a pair of meetings Thursday at City Hall.

Drug bust near Cameron school
A 28-year-old Cameron man was ar rested Monday near Cameron Elementary School at the conclusion of a two-month drug-trafficking investigation by the Special Investigations Unit of the Milam County Sheriff’s Department.
Kevin Ray Bailey was charged with possession of marijuana (4 ounces to 5 pounds) in a drugfree zone.

Troopers called to crashes
Department of Public Safety state troopers were called to a pair of highway crashes during the past week in south Milam County.
Trooper Jason Adams investigated a collision reported at 2:31 p.m. Aug. 20 at the intersection of US 79 and FM 486 in the Thorndale city limits.
He listed drivers as Melissa Shepard, 23, of San Antonio, and 82-year-old June Johnson of Thorndale. Full Story
Splash park eyed for Rockdale
$250,000 project clears first hurdle
A quarter- million- dollar “splash park” was endorsed by the Rockdale Development District Thursday and the idea is now headed to the city council.
Collier Perry, MDD vice-president, proposed that the state-ofthe art facility, known formally as a “splash pad,” be located in the southeast corner of the Patterson Civic Center lot, already owned by the city. Full Story

Murder trial jury process gets large venue
CAMERON—The jury selection process in the upcoming Brandon Charles Cotton capital murder trial is moving to a larger venue.
County commissioners on Monday endorsed the move of the Oct. 15 jury call from the county courthouse to the Williams Civic Center, also in Cameron. Full Story

Annual Founders Day fund-raiser, parade set for Saturday in downtown Gause
On Saturday, Aug. 31 is the big day for the annual Gause Community Improvement Program (CIP) Founders Day fund-raiser. We start the day with a “Made from Scratch Cake, Pie and Cookie Contest.” Items need to be at the Gause Baptist Church Fellowship Hall at 8 a.m. There will be adult and youth contests. Milano rah-rah camp next week after school
Rah-Rah Camp at Milano will be held Monday, Sept. 2 through Wednesday, Sept. 4 after school. The camp is sponsored by the MHS cheerleaders and will run from 3:30-5 p.m. at the elementary gym. Cost is $30 per girl and includes a T-shirt. Full Story
