Buchanan

Graveside services for Lahoma Buchanan, 93, of Thorndale were held Saturday, Aug. 24, 2013, in Pleasant Retreat Cemetery south of Thorndale with Pastor James Brymer of Conoley Community Church officiating.

Mrs. Buchanan died Tuesday, Aug. 20, at her home in Thorndale.

She was born Aug. 23, 1920 in Beaukiss to Ira and Odessa (Oliver) Houghton.

Mrs. Buchanan was educated in Beaukiss until the eighth grade and graduated from Thrall High School in 1937.

She married Howard Buchanan on Sept. 23, 1937, in Taylor.

Mrs. Buchanan was a member of Conoley Community Church and, with her husband, served many congregations, him in the pulpit and her at the piano.

She worked as a sales clerk and cashier for Gibson’s in Taylor and Walmart in Rockdale.

Mrs. Buchanan was preceded in death by her husband, Bro.Howard Buchanan, on Dec. 5, 2003; a son, John W. Buchanan; her parents; a brother, Wayne Houghton; and a sister, Faye Houghton.

Survivors are a son, William Howard “Billy” Buchanan of Brenham; a daughter, Virginia Buchanan of Brenham; and a sister, Ira Mae Haag of Newark, Ohio; also, numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Kevin Kiesling, Jerome Buchanan, Scot Stromsness, Roland Buchanan and Carroll Modesette.
