Council member resigns

Rockdale City Council member Melody Dawson quits position

Melody Dawson, Rockdale City Council east-ward member since being elected in May, 2011, resigned her position on Thursday (Sept. 5).

In her resignation letter to Mayor John King, Dawson cited "balancing time between family obligations," a two-hour commute to a job with 10 to 12-hour work days and "volunteer service for my community."

Dawson expressed appreciation to the mayor, council, city staffers, members of city boards and to the "dedicated citizens of the east ward."

The council will now have 10 days to call a special election to fill the vacancy created by Dawson's resignation.
