Kristi’s Krusaders needing donations, door prizes for annual MS Rally event

MILANO—Kristi’s Krusaders will hold their fourth annual MS Rally bike run on Saturday, Sept. 14 at Nat’s in Milano. The group is still in need of several auction items and door prizes.

The event has raised over $38,000 in its last three years, all going to help fund research for new treatment of Multiple Sclerosis.

The namesake, Kristi (Ditto) Bode, was diagnosed with the disease a few years ago. She is reminded everyday of what the money goes for.

“As far as its affects on me, I am tired a lot and have some cognitive issue and minimal mobility issues, but I have been on the new pill form of the MS medicine and actually had a new lesion disappear,” Bode said. The medication is Gilenya.

BEATING IT—Bode has found a great support from those in the Central Texas MS Society group. And of those friends made, she has seen some of them lose their battle with the disease.

“Because of this illness I have met and come in contact with some really amazing people who have blessed my life beyond belief, one of them was Peggy Mueller. She was my first glimpse and source of support when I was diagnosed and the reason I started fundraising,” Bode said. “Peggy passed away this year, so it makes me want to do even better. This disease is also believed to possibly be hereditary and maybe my efforts will help my children not have to face what I do on a day to day basis.”

BIKE RUN—Registration will open at 9 a.m. on Sept. 14 with first bike out 11 a.m. and last bike in at 4 p.m. Ride fee is $20 for rider and $25 with passenger that also includes a barbecue meal when you return from the ride. Stops and sponsors for this year’s ride are Burnouts in Somerville, Cyndi’s Hawg Hang Out in Hogg, The Ranch in Rockdale and Nat’s in Milano.

Barbecue places will be sold to the public starting at noon. A live auction will begin at 5 p.m. The group will also have a bike show, silent auction and door prizes, as well as event T-shirts for sale that day. After the auction, live music will be provided by Full House Blues Band.
