Forest Grove church homecoming Sunday

Forest Grove Christian Church invites the public to attend its annual homecoming service and fellowship lunch on Sunday, Sept. 15. Speaker will be Brother James Diamond. Praise service will start at 9:30 a.m., Sunday School (for all ages) at 10 a.m., and worship at 11 a.m., with the meal to follow.

Anniversary, homecoming Sunday at Rising Star BC

Rising Star Baptist Church will hold its 106th anniversary and homecoming Sunday, Sept. 15 at the church, 1055 Texas Street in Rockdale, with the public invited. Events will be:

• 10:45 a.m.—Guest speaker Rev. Charles Ray Terry, pastor of New Birth Baptist Church in Plano.

• 3 p.m.— Guest speaker Rev. Kevin Nelson, pastor of Calvary Baptist Church in San Antonio.

The church’s 106th anniversary focus is “Families.”

“Please join us and invite all your family members,” said JoAnn Bradford, spokesperson. “The family with most members in attendance will be acknowledged with a plaque with their family name.”

Cowboy Church women set Fall Fling Oct. 12

The Milam County Cowboy Church Women’s Team will hold their Fall Fling from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 12, according to Cindy Jerman, publicist.

“The Fall Fling will feature 2011 Female Horizon Award Winner Sandie Dickey and our very own local blessing, songstress Janice Cowen,” Jerman said. Lunch and door prizes will be provided.

New Hope Baptist sets 122nd homecoming

New Hope Missionar y Baptist Church, 327 E. 3rd Street, invites the public to help celebrate its 122nd annual church homecoming at 11 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 22.

Guest speaker and guests will be Pastor Willie Phillips of the Smith Chapel AME Church. “We hope you will come be a part of this celebration,” said Deborah Crawford, spokesperson.

RSBC ‘Garden of Hope’ offering plots for fall

Rising Star Baptist Church’s community “Garden of Hope” project at 1055 Texas Street, Rockdale, announces that it is time to plan fall gardening.

Anyone who would like an individual or group plot may obtain one by contacting James Bradford at 512-446- 3242. Work days will be announced.

St. Thomas ‘Invitation Sunday’ welcomes public

Sept. 15 will be “Invitation Sunday” at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 302 E. Davilla, in Rockdale.

“All are welcome to join us for the 11 a.m. service,” said Rev. Pam Graham, St. Thomas vicar.

Guest preacher for the service will be the Rev. Canon John Newton. “John is the Canon for lifelong Christian formation,” Rev. Graham said. “His vocation is to preach, teach, guide, shape, clarify, listen, articulate, and empower so that we can grow up into Christ together and joyfully live into our Baptismal Covenant.”

“Fr. John is a profound, dynamic, witty preacher—one definitely not to miss,” Rev. Graham added.

Garage sale, BBQ to benefit Shiloh BC

THORNDALE—Two fund-raisers have been scheduled to benefit First Shiloh Baptist Church’s construction of a Family Life Center.

• “Antiques as far as the eye can see” is the theme for a garage sale Oct. 4-5 in downtown Thorndale.

• A night of music and barbecue Oct. 20 at First Shiloh Baptist, 9.5 miles south of Thorndale at the corner of FM 112 and South FM 486. Heaven’s Heirs will perform, as will Sam Dowdy. Faye Eller and Lily Dennis will perform songs from the album, The Path.

Thrift store volunteers announced for month

Rockdale Christian Services Heavenly Treasures thrift store serving the needy at 233 North Main Street is staffed by volunteers from RCS member churches. Volunteer assignments for churches are:

Pleasant Retreat UMC chili supper, auction

THORNDALE—Pleasant Retreat United Methodist Church, 852 County Road 458, will hold its annual chili supper and live auction Saturday, Sept. 28. Serving will start at 5 p.m. and the auction at 7 p.m.

Directions: At the Thorndale traffic light, take FM 486 south 6 miles, turn east on CR 458. The church is the first building on the right.

Next men’s breakfast at First Presbyterian

An ecumenical monthly men’s Christian fellowship breakfast is held from 7 until 8 a.m. each second Tuesday, the site rotating between several local churches.

Next breakfast will be on Tuesday, Oct. 8 at First Presbyterian Church, 1600 Alcoa Avenue.

“Purpose is Christian fellowship and all men of the Rockdale area are invited,” said Bill Avrett, spokesman.

Women on Mission study Texas missions

Women on Missions of First Baptist Church met Sept. 4 with a mission focus on Mary Hill Davis for Texas Missions. “The Eyes of Texas” and “Texas Our Texas” were sung by members.

Joyce Cryer, Elaine Holliman, Mary Morgan, Jane Robinson and Delores Sonntag presented the program. Others attending were Faye Simpson, Gladys Roberts, Shirley Lane, Dale Robinson, Laura Gary, Elaine Simpson and guest Blake Gearhart.—Jane Robinson, reporter

‘Little blessings’ fund-raiser planned

THORNDALE—A “Little Blessings” fund-raiser benefiting the St. Paul Lutheran School in Thorndale will be held Saturday, Oct. 26 at Fireman’s Hall.

Tickets are $100 each and entitle the buyer and a guest to a catered chicken fried steak meal and a chance to win the following: Camouflage Kubota RTV 400 ($9,000 value); 5-by-10-foot utility trailer ($1,500 value); $500 Visa gift card.

Only 200 of the $100 tickets will be sold. Also available are $25 “meal and dance only” tickets. Holders of the $25 tickets can bid on auction items.

The Oct. 26 schedule: 5 p.m., registration/ social hour; 6 p.m. meal; 7 p.m. drawing, live auction and dance.
