A ll drawings for the 2013 - 2014 Milam County 4-H Calendar/ Handbook must be submitted to the Extension Office by Sept. 16. You can submit drawings illustrating your 4-H projects and the slogan “Milam County 4-H: Leaders 4 Tomorrow”. You can submit multiple drawings for the contest. Each drawing needs to be submitted on plain white paper (8 1/2 by 11).
Pencil or colored pictures will be accepted, but remember that most pictures are printed in black and white for the calendar, so make sure your picture will copy. Put your name, age and club on back of drawing. The first, second and third place drawings for each age division will receive money prizes at the Celebration Program on Oct. 6.
COUNTY PHOTOS DUE FRIDAY— The county contest is open to beginners, junior, intermediate and senior age division. 4-Hers my submit one photo per category. Please review and follow the district contest guidelines (posted on the county website) for photo labeling and categories, but remember to email county entries to email@example.com by noon Friday, Sept. 13.
Winners from the county contest in the junior, intermediate and senior levels will be sent to the district contest judging. District Photography Entries will be on display from Oct. 3-12 at the Heart O’ Texas Fair Creative Arts/Exhibit Building in Waco.
LIVESTOCK SHOW UPDATE—Any 4-H member who has interest in exhibiting market swine at any of the major livestock shows held in the spring, including Fort Worth, San Antonio, San Angelo, Houston and Star of Texas in Austin need to order validation tags. Swine validated under the Major Show Validation Program will also be allowed to show at the Milam County Junior Livestock Show.
The tags will be available to order from our office until 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 13. The tags will be $12 each and you will order and pay for as many tags as you anticipate needing to validate swine. Validation dates will be later in the fall. If you have any questions, please contact our office at 254-697-7045.
ROCKDALE FAIR BAKED GOODS—4-Hers and FFA members planning on entering the Rockdale Fair Auction Baked Foods must submit entries by Sept. 20. Also note that the show will be conducted on Saturday, Oct. 12 prior to the Rockdale Fair. Complete rules and entry form are posted on the county website and also available in the Extension Office. Rockdale Fair information is also available on the Rockdale Fair website.
Those who can enter include junior youth (third grade ages 8 or 9-13 years of age and senior youth (ages 14-18) by the day of the show who are 4-H and/or FFA members. All UIL rules apply (eligible requirement).
No items requiring refrigeration may be entered in this division. Exhibitors may enter one item in each of the following categories: cakes (not decorated), cookies (6) and pies.
Completed Rockdale Fair Auction Baked Foods Division Entry form must be received by Sept. 20. Entries with fees must be submitted to Rockdale Fair Association and must be mailed to Barbara Walko, c/o Rockdale Fair Association, PO Box 1582, Rockdale, TX 76567. No late entries will be accepted.
Cakes must be made from scratch or a cake mix with a minimum of one additional item added. Pie crust can be purchased or homemade. Cookies cannot be purchased cookie dough. Bar type desserts will be considered cookies.
