CONSTITUTION WEEK—

Next week begins the national celebration of Constitution Week. The week long commemoration of America’s most important document is one of our country’s least known official observances. The tradition of celebrating the Constitution was started many years ago by the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). In 1955, the Daughters petitioned Congress to set aside Sept. 17-23 annually to be dedicated for the observance of Constitution Week. Milam County Judge Dave Barkemeyer signed a proclamation for this observance at Monday’s commissioners court meeting at the county courthouse in Cameron. Pictured are (l-r) Commissioners Tank Balch (Pct. 1) and Kenneth Hollas (Pct. 2), Regent Three Missions Chapter DAR Alma Lue Wenzel, Milam County Judge Dave Barkemeyer, secretary treasurer Three Missions Chapter DAR Lee Riding, Commissioners John Fisher (Pct. 3 and Jeff Muegge (Pct. 4).
