Special Needs Family Fun Day set Sept. 21

The fifth annual Special Needs Family Fun Day will be held from 2 until 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21 at the Rockdale Fair Park pavilion, 200 Walnut Street.

“This is a time for families, friends and teachers of children with varied disabilities to all come together for food, fun and fellowship,” said Denitra Rideaux, spokesperson. “Everything is free so bring friends and family and join us,” she added.

Activities will include clowns, a zoo show, bounce house, ice cream floats, arts and crafts, hay rides, games, snow cones and food and drinks.

La Escuelita’s annual cookoff set for Oct. 12

La Escuelita will hold its annual fall cookoff on Saturday, Oct. 12.

There will be menudo, chili, and barbecue beef, chicken and pork cookoff categories, plus horseshoe and washer pitching tournaments. Breakfast tacos will be available in the morning, plus vendor booths.

Milam Retired Teachers to meet September 19

Milam County Retired Teachers Association’s first meeting of the school year will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 19 in the Gause Elementary/Junior High School Library.

Local historical society seeks quilts for exhibit

Members of the Rockdale Historical Society are seeking loan of antique quilts or quilts with a history for an exhibit during the fall and winter.

They would also exhibit any pictures that area residents might have of quilt making.

Murray Cemetery Assn. to meet September 21

The annual meeting of the Murray Cemetery Association will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 21 at Rockdale General Store.

This year, five families who have ancestors buried at Murray Cemetery will be honored. Those families are Timmerman, Dungan, Strube, Seelke and Pieper.

Thorndale Masons set fish fry on October 6

THORNDALE—Thorndale Masonic Lodge No. 978 will hold a fish fry scholarship fund-raiser on Sunday, Oct. 6 at Fireman’s Hall Serving will begin at 11 a.m. and continue until sold out.

Cost is $9 a plate, dessert included. “You can eat at the hall or get your plates to go. The lodge encourages everyone to come out to support the local Masons and get yourself a delicious plate of fried catfish,” said Barton Felton, spokesman.

Kristi’s Krusaders set 4th MS Rally Saturday

MILANO— Kristi’s Krusaders will hold their fourth annual MS Rally on Saturday, Sept. 14 at Nat’s in Milano, according to Kristi Bode, publicist.

Registration will open at 9 a.m. with first bike out at 11 a.m. and last bike in at 4 p.m. Ride fee is $20 ($25 with passenger) and includes a barbecue meal when ride is over.

Stops will include Burnouts in Somerville, Cyndi’s Hawg Hang Out in Hogg, The Ranch in Rockdale and Nat’s in Milano. Barbecue plates will be sold to the public for $8 each starting at noon. A live auction will begin at 5 p.m.

Shirts for the event will also be sold that day. Other activities will be a silent auction, door prizes and a bike show. After the live auction, the Full House Blues Band will play.

MILANO— Milano Volunteer Fire Department’s Ladies Auxiliary will hold its annual fall garage sale Oct. 3-5 at the new Milano VFD/ Shelter building, 305 E. Avenue C (US79/ TX36), spokesperson Jane Yoakum said. Hours will be 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 3-4 and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 5.

Rockdale Noon Lions set scholarship golf event

Rockdale Noon Lions Club’s annual Lions Scholarship Golf Tournament has been scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 12 at Rockdale Country Club, with Ron Montgomery tourney chairman.

Proceeds from the tourament will go to the club’s scholarship fund that benefits RHS seniors each spring.

The club meets on the first and third Wednesdays at noon at Rockdale VFD Fire Station, corner of Bell and Wilcox.

“ We invite anyone interested in community service to join us as our guest for a catered lunch and meet our members,” said Lions President Terri York Sandoval.
