Freshmen Tigers remain undefeated

The Rockdale sub varsity teams split with Burnet as the freshman squad held off a Bulldog rally and the junior varsity were tripped up in a back-and-forth dog fight at Tigerland Field Thursday night.

The Tiger freshmen remained unbeaten at 2-0 with a 14-6 victory over Burnet.

David Franklin picked off a Burnet pass and then parlayed the theft into a 26-yard touchdown scamper for a 6-0 lead early in the second quarter.

Tynerrick Miles followed up Franklin with a 54-yard touchdown run and after Davion Ford’s conversion run, the Tigers led 14-0.

The Tiger defense allowed Burnet an 85-yard touchdown bomb in the fourth quarter, but held on for the victory.

According to coaches, linemen Brayden Hartley, Zach Montelongo and Quinten White, linebacker Brazton Moore and defensive back Tristan Romas were the standouts.

After falling behind 23-8 at intermission, the Tiger junior varsity’s rally came up just short in a 29-20 loss.

The Tigers actually grabbed an early 8-0 lead when Andrew Perez grabbed up a fumble at the Burnet one-yard line and then snuck over on the next play for a score.

The Tigers did not scratch the scoreboard again until the third quarter when Perez pushed over from the two-yard line to close the score to 23-14.

After a missed Burnet field goal, the Tiger junior varsity closed the gap even further when Perez found Christian Lara with a six-yard scoring pass to make it 23-20 in the fourth quarter.

Burnet put the game out of reach with a 50-yard touchdown run to make the final 29-20.

Coaches said Lara, lineman Travis Morgan, running back/ linebacker Chase Pickett, lineman Laurence Baggerly and lineman A.J. Rutledge turned in outstanding games.
