ROCKDALE’S NEWEST STREET

Or at least part of it is in Rockdale. Chip sealing of 3,050-foot Texas Street was completed Friday by Milam County Precinct 2 crews in a unique cooperative project. One-third of the street is in the Rockdale city limits and two-thirds is in Precinct 2. It’s the only street serving Rising Star Baptist Church (shown above and partially at right) and church members had appeared before the city council several times to request a better driving surface. The City of Rockdale purchased materials to chip-seal the street and Precinct 2, under the direction of Commissioner Kenneth Hollas, provided labor. The project finished just in time for the church’s anniversary-homecoming services Sunday.
