Milano Opry to hit stage Saturday

I t’s that weekend again—time for the Milano Opry. The show is set for Saturday, Sept. 21, at Milano High School. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the show starts at 7. Go early and grab a bite to eat. They will have barbecue sandwiches and hamburgers for sale, as well as their famous homemade pies.

Guests for this month are Chick Herrin, Jeremy Wade and Mossimo Gerrosa. House band members are Michael Herod, Ab Woods, Billy Barnett, Michael Wall, Mossimo Gerrosa, Lynn Martin and Donny White.

A great turn out and job for all those who donated and went to the fourth annual Kristi’s Krusaders MS Rally on Saturday. The event raised around $8,000 for Multiple Sclerosis research.

The Milano Athletic Booster Club will host a spaghetti supper on Friday, Sept. 27, prior to the Eagles homecoming football game. Serving will be from 5 p.m. until sold out.

Donations are being sought for spaghetti sauce, garlic bread, bags of salad/lettuce, salad dressing and tomatoes. All “homemade” sauces will be entered into a contest to win a $20 football concession stand voucher. Desserts will be provided by Milano athletes. Anyone wishing to donate, call or email any MABC officer by Sept. 20. MHS Class of 2014 Project Graduation is taking orders for Milano knit blankets. The blanket is 63x63 inches. Cost is $45 each. Personalization can be added for an additional $15. Money is due at time of ordering. The group is also selling “bull bingo” tickets for a chance to win $200 debit cards. The “bingo” will take place on Saturday, Sept. 28. A limited number of tickets have been sold for the event and cost $10 each. Contact a MHS senior, senior parent to place your order or buy tickets.

The Milano Volunteer Fire Department will hold dedication ceremonies for its new building/ shelter at 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28. The new VFD location is at 305 E. Avenue C (US79/TX36).

Milano VFD’s Ladies Auxiliary will hold its annual fall garage sale Oct. 3-5 at the brand new Milano VFD/shelter. Hours will be 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 3-4 and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 5. Milano Alumni Scholarship committee is offering their mini scholarships for the 2013 fall semester. Any Milano graduate who has completed one year or two semesters at a college or trade school is eligible to apply. For applications call Carolyn Hafley, 512-455-2473 or Marie Bakken, 254-718-0133.
