Flu clinics scheduled for Rockdale, Milam County

The Milam County Health Department has scheduled several flu shot clinics in upcoming weeks.

Rockdale’s clinic will be Oct. 4 at the KC Hall.

All clinics will be held from 9 to 11:30 a.m.

Flu shot clinics are scheduled as follows:

• Friday, Sept. 27, Bea’s Kitchen, Cameron.

• Friday, Oct. 4, Rockdale KC Hall.

• Tuesday, Oct. 8, Milano Civic Center (next to fire department).

• Friday, Oct. 11, Thorndale Senior Citizens Center.

“The flu vaccine will be given at no cost to people who have Medicare Part B,” Diane Leftwich, spokesperson for the Milam County Health Department, said. “Please bring your Medicare card.”

Cost to all other adults will be $20.

Rockdale homecoming parade ahead Oct. 2nd

Rockdale High School’s annual homecoming parade is set for 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 2 downtown.

As has been the custom in recent years, the parade will head down Bell Avenue instead of US 79 (Cameron Avenue).

Kathy Pelzel, parade chair, said the parade route is down Bell to Wilcox, north on Wilcox to Murray and west on Murray to the high school.

The parade will feature floats by all four RHS classes, the Big Blue Band, queen nominees and princesses, football players and more.

Busy agenda for MDD directors on Thursday

Rockdale Municipal Development District (MDD) directors have a busy agenda when they meet in regular session at 5:30 p.m. Thursday in the MDD office.

Agenda items include the 2013- 14 development district budget, welcome of new board members, reports on 14 ongoing projects and an executive session to discuss property purchase.

No filings for vacancy on city council ballot

As of 5 p.m. Tuesday there had been no filings for the Dec. 21 special election to fill the Rockdale City Council post recently vacated by Melody Dawson.

The filing period began Sept. 11 and runs through Oct. 21.

Dawson’s unexpired term runs until May, 2014.

One fire call during week for south Milam

One fire call was dispatched during the past week from the Rockdale Police Department.

The Milano VFD was called to a grass blaze at 4:57 p.m. four miles west of Milano off US 79.

Milano ISD trustees set to meet on Wednesday

MILANO—Trustees for Milano ISD were set to meet Wednesday night in the high school library during their regular session.

Agenda items were to have included an adjunct faculty agreement with Texas AgriLife Extension Service, senior trip contract and disposing of surplus property.

City of Milano plans 2014 budget hearings

MILANO—City council members set Oct. 8 as the date for a public hearing on the city’s 2014 budget. T he d ate s election w as part of discussion in the council’s regular session on Monday at the Milano Civic Center.

The meeting is set to start at 6 p.m. on Oct. 8 at the center. A hearing on the proposed Milano ISD annexation is also set for that day.

The council also: voted to purchase an additional 2014 Tahoe for the Milano police department; adopted an ordinance prohibiting sexually oriented businesses from locating to the city; began annexation proceedings for property on the western city limits, renewed maintenance contract with Nathan Doelitsch.

During the public comment portion of the meeting, council members heard concerns from citizens about packs of dogs running loose around the town. The council said it would work on an ordinance for the issue.

The burn ban for Milam County has been lifted. Burning is always prohibited in the county's municipalities.
