Cowboy Church women set Fall Fling Oct. 12

Milam County Cowboy Church Women’s Team will hold their Fall Fling 10 a.m-2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, said Cindy Jerman, publicist.

Pleasant Retreat UMC chili, auction Saturday

THORNDALE— Pleasant Retreat United Methodist Church, 852 CR 458, will hold its annual chili supper and live auction Saturday, Sept. 28. Serving will start at 5 p.m. and the auction at 7 p.m.

Directions: At the Thorndale traffic light, take FM 486 south 6 miles, turn east on CR 458. The church is the first building on the right.

Wednesday youth night at San Gabriel Christian

San Gabriel Christian Church holds Christian Youth Fellowship at 6:30 p.m. Wednesdays for children/youth grades K–12. A light supper is served at 6:30 p.m. with praise/worship at 7, followed by classes for all ages, ending at 8 p.m.

CYF director is youth minister Jason Gordon who began his SGCC ministry Sept. 1. He is a graduate of Lincoln Christian College and Seminary. “He has led several successful youth ministries, most recently in Tyler,” said Billy Bob Cox, SGCC evangelist. FMI: 512-377-1220.

Family Matters series to focus on bullying

“ Bullying” will be the topic for the community-wide Family Matters series at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 2 in the fellowship hall of St. John’s United Methodist Church. The public is invited and the event is free. A snack supper and nursery will be provided.

Topics include:

• “How do I recognize bullying behavior?”

• “How do I prevent bullying?”

• “How does bullying impact kids and my family?”

Gospel singing Saturday at San Gabriel Baptist

San Gabriel Baptist Church will host an old-fashioned southern gospel singing at 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28 with congregational singing, solos, duets, trios or quartets and instrumental specials of southern gospel, contemporary Christian music and traditional hymns. Soloists and groups are welcome.

Outreach Center to show Bible Miniseries Sundays

Rockdale Outreach Center will show the History Channel’s The Bible Miniseries. “It totals 10 hours that we will break it into 1-2 hour events starting each Sunday at 1:30 p.m.,” said Pastor Tom Peoples. The center is at 193 N. FM 487 in Rockdale.

Sunday school resumes at Peace Lutheran Church

Peace Lutheran Church in Rockdale holds Sunday school for all ages, kindergarten to age 18, plus an adult class, from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m. “Come and bring the kids,” said Pastor Ed Trueson.

Potluck church luncheons follow morning worship each second Sunday. Saturday night services continue at 6:30 p.m. on each first Saturday except October when the service will be Oct. 12.

Garage sale, BBQ to benefit Shiloh BC

THORNDALE—Two fund-raisers are scheduled to benefit First Shiloh Baptist Church’s construction of a Family Life Center.

• “Antiques as far as the eye can see” is the theme for a garage sale Oct. 4-5 in downtown Thorndale.

• A night of music and barbecue Oct. 20 at First Shiloh Baptist, 9.5 miles south of Thorndale at the corner of FM 112 and South FM 486. Heaven’s Heirs will perform, as will Sam Dowdy. Faye Eller and Lily Dennis will perform songs from the album, The Path.

Holy Family Catholic Fall Fest ahead Oct. 6

LEXINGTON—Holy Family Catholic Church will hold its Fall Festival Sunday, Oct. 6, on the parish grounds, 1027 East FM 696, Lexington.

Celebratatory 23rd Anniversary Mass starts at 10 a.m. Fried Chicken dinner serving starts at 11 a.m. and a live auction will start at 12:30 p.m. There will also be a country store, kids’ games, “Holy Cow Plop,” funnel cakes, cake walk, drawings and more.

Next men’s breakfast at First Presbyterian

An ecumenical monthly men’s Christian fellowship breakfast is held from 7 until 8 a.m. each second Tuesday, the site rotating between several local churches. Next breakfast will be on Tuesday, Oct. 8 at First Presbyterian Church, 1600 Alcoa Avenue.

“Purpose is Christian fellowship and all men of the Rockdale area are invited,” said Bill Avrett, spokesman.

‘Little blessings’ fund-raiser Oct. 26

THORNDALE—A “Little Blessings” fund-raiser benefiting St. Paul Lutheran School in Thorndale will be held Saturday, Oct. 26 at Fireman’s Hall.

Tickets are $100 each and entitle the buyer and a guest to a chicken fried steak meal and a chance to win a Camouflage Kubota RTV 400 ($9,000 value); 5-by-10-foot utility trailer ($1,500 value); $500 Visa gift card.

Only 200 of the $100 tickets will be sold. Also available are $25 “meal and dance only” tickets. Holders of the $25 tickets can bid on auction items.

The schedule: 5 p.m., registration/ social hour; 6 p.m. meal; 7 p.m. drawing, live auction and dance.

Rising Star hosts teacher reception

Rising Star Baptist Church, 1055 Texas Street, Rockdale, hosted a new teachers welcome reception for all new Rockdale ISD teachers at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 25, according to spokesperson Jo Ann Bradford.

Friendship Baptist sets ‘fifth Sunday singing’
