Rabid bat at TISD prompts caution, alert by officials
‘No contact with students’; staff inspects facilities
A rabid bat was discovered on a Thorndale ISD playground last week by a school maintenance worker.
No students came into contact with the diseased bat, which was then collected by police, but the community is asked to be on the alert.
Dr. Craig Spinn, Thorndale ISD superintendent, said the bat was discovered last Wednesday near the old (Quonset Hut) gym. Full Story
‘Run for the Kay’ is Saturday
The eighth annual Kay Theatre Walk/ Run/Unrun is set for Saturday at the theatre, corner of Main and Davilla.
The annual event raises funds for restoration of the 1940s-era theatre as a community center and performing arts venue.

3,800-square-foot building had roots in 2008 Hurricane Ike evacuee crowd
An idea that blossomed five years ago as thousands of Hurricane Ike evacuees poured into Milam County w ill become a reality Saturday in Milano with a combination dedication and open house.
Officials w ill gat her to dedicate the 3,800- squarefoot emergency shelter. Jim Reed, exec- utive director of the Central Texas Council of Governments (CTCOG), will speak at the dedication. Full Story

The second of two “pre- Fair” concerts in the Fair Park pavilion is set for Saturday night when the wildly popular Austin-based band Reckless Kelly comes to town.
