No. 5 Milano cruising in district play; Lady Dogs rack up pair of league wins

HOLLAND—The No. 5 Milano Lady Eagles continue to sweep through District 16A opponents, as they won on the road in three games Tuesday night at Holland, sweeping the Lady Hornets 25-13, 25-7, 25-11.

Myka Morehead led the Lady Eagles with 13 kills and five digs, followed by Halle McManess with six kills, five digs and a block. Keely LaGrone also put down six kills along with four digs. Camille Messer added four kills and two blocks.

Cashlyne Blake put up 16 assists and five digs, with Naomi Graham putting up 12 assists and seven digs. Kelly Wadlington added seven digs.

Milano (22-4, 5-0) continued to roll through league play with a sweep of Granger on Saturday afternoon at Geneva Paceley Gym.

The Lady Eagles won 25- 7, 25-17, 25-19.

Morehead led the way with 12 kills and three digs, followed by Messer with 10 kills and one dig. Blake put up 13 assists, three digs and two aces, with Graham dishing up 12 assists, one dig and one kill.

McManess added three kills and six digs and LaGrone had three kills, one ace and one dig. Wadlington added three digs.

Milano will host No. 13 Thrall (18-8) on Saturday, a big match up in the district standings race. Both are undefeated going into that game.

The Lady Eagles will then travel to Georgetown Gateway on Tuesday.

Thorndale

Thorndale defeated Granger on the road Tuesday night in District 16A play, taking the match in four games 25-22, 25-22, 19-25, 25-17.

Emily Churchman pounded out 13 kills, 13 digs, two assists and two aces to lead the team, followed by Kailey Cargill with nine kills, 21 digs, three assists and one block. Kamryn Holder set 20 assists, had nine digs and three aces.

Madison Kropp had five kills, two digs, two aces and one assist, with Emily Garza adding five kills and one assist. Savannah Driver had four kills, two assists, one dig and one block.

Peytyn O’Campo pulled out nine digs, one assist and one ace. Meagan Cuba had four digs and one ace. Shelby Anders had three digs and one assists.

The Lady Dogs (6-14, 2- 4) posted their first District 16A win on Saturday, as they swept Georgetown Gateway at Bulldog Gym 25-8, 25-13, 25-8.

Cargill led the way with 13 kills and seven assits. Churchman added seven kills and eight assists.

Driver put down five kills, with Garza adding three kills and three assists. Holder set up 12 assists and served eight aces, along with four kills.

Kropp had four aces and four assists, with O’Campo and Cuba putting up two assists and Anders adding one kill.

Thorndale will travel to play at Bartlett on Saturday and then host Buckholts on Tuesday.
