Bored? Turn off TV–read The Reporter
Kathy Cooke

We sure enjoyed the rain last week-end. And Rockdale did not let a little rain keep us from participating in the Saturday activities.

The 5Kay Run/Walk/Unrun was a great success Saturday morning. When I heard the thunder at 7 a.m. I wondered if the 5Kay was going to happen. But the clouds parted for a bit, just in time.

Saturday night Bill and I worked our church’s booth at the Pre-Fair Concert with Reckless Kelly. And yes it rained, but the concert-goers that came anyway looked to be having a great time.

Now can you believe the Rockdale Fair & Rodeo is only three weeks away. Where did September go?

There is a lot happening in Rockdale and surrounding areas this week-end again.

Let me just say this, if you ever hear anyone say that they are bored in Rockdale, they need to get out of their recliner, turn the TV off and read The Rockdale Reporter and listen to KRXT 98.5 because there is a lot to do!

And both of your local news sources do their very best to let you know where it’s happening.

There are so many activities in this area, most of them supporting worthy causes, not to mention all of the great businesses that offer lots of eats, drinks and fun!

Western Divas Boutique Salon and Spa is holding their Grand Opening on Friday and Saturday, October 4 and 5 at their location, corner of Cameron Ave. and Main Street in downtown Rockdale.

They will be having some awesome sales, specials, drawings and give-aways on all salon and spa services and boutique items. They also have two new services, a Gravitational Spa Pedicure and Aromatherapy Steam Sauna.

There will be a “Wheels For Whitney” Bake Sale on Friday, starting at 9 a.m. at Rockdale Federal Credit Union, according to Shirley Bailey, Whitney Bailey’s grandma. They need bakers! Anyone wanting to donate baked goods to the bake sale, call Shirley Bailey at 512-446- 6596.

Holy Family Catholic Church is holding their annual Fall Festival on Sunday, October 6 on the parish grounds at 1027 East FM 696 in Lexington. Mass will start at 10 a.m. and they will be celebrating their 23rd anniversary.

The Holy Family Catholic Fried Chicken Dinner will start at 11 a.m. and for those of you who have never tried their fried chicken, let me just say it is well worth the drive to Lexington. It is always delish! There will be a Live Auction starting at 12:30 p.m. and a lot of other fun activities like Holy Cow Plop, country store, kid’s games, funnel cakes, cake walk, chance drawings and more.

The annual Dime Box Black Bridge Festival will be Saturday, Oct. 5, in downtown Dimebox. This is a Lions Club-sponsored event and will feature a bbq cookoff, parade, craft/swap booths and the 36th annual Mini Marathon starting at 9 a.m. Other events will be a chili/soup/hot dog supper, Dime Box ISD Choir, street dance, and a 42 tournament.
