Emancipet to visit Rockdale Thursday
Emancipet, which offers low cost spay and neutering to dogs and cats will visit Rockdale on Thursday, Oct. 3, according to spokesperson Adam Gardner.

Final Schneider team roping event Oct. 5-6
The 17th annual, and last ever, Maggie Schneider Memorial Scholarship Team Roping will be held Oct. 5-6 at the Lightsey Covered Arena in Caldwell, according to organizer Richard Schneider.
Saturday roping will start at 9 a.m. with #15 four for $200 with the draw option available. Pay back is 80 percent with adding $3,000 in #15. Followed by #13 and #11 ropings (four for $50). They will be run together with separate short goes. Saddles will go to the high point header and heeler of each roping.
On Sunday, roping will start at 10 a.m., #10 with #6 cap four for $50 with saddles to the high point header and heeler. That will be followed by #8 draw pot with #5 cap, $100 per man. Saddles to high point header and heeler.
Also a saddle to high point header or heeler, 50 years or older for the weekend. All prizes are fully donated. No teams will be held for prizes. USTRC number will be used. Negative coggins required.

Local ranching event Thursday in Cameron
The Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association (TSCRA) will host a ranch gathering Thursday, Oct. 3, at 44 Farms near Cameron. Registration for the gathering begins at 5:30 p.m. followed by a complimentary beef dinner. The event is free and open to the public.
44 Farms is located at 1945 County Road 227.
TSCRA Special Ranger Hal Dumas will update ranchers on cattle thefts in the area and how they can better protect themselves from thieves. A legislative update will also be given to update ranchers and landowners on important issues.
The gathering is sponsored by Gorman Milling, Novartis Animal Health and Capital Farm Credit. Attendees that sign up as a TSCRA member at the gathering will receive a free metal gate sign courtesy of Bayer Animal Health.
Farm Bureau annual meeting set Oct. 15
CAMERON— Members of the Milam County Farm Bureau will join together Tuesday, Oct. 15 for their annual meeting. The meeting will be held at the county office in Cameron beginning at 7 p.m. No meal will be served.
Voting delegates will be selected to represent Milam County Farm Bureau at the state convention to be held in San Antonio Dec. 7-9.
The policy development committee is currently accepting suggestions for resolutions. Members are encouraged to submit their thoughts. All recommendations will be considered in drafting tentative resolutions to be voted on at the annual meeting.
4-H collecting items for soldier care packages
Rockdale 4-H Club is collecting items for care packages for soldiers.
Rockdale 4-Hers are working with other 4-Hers from across the county in a large community service project, according to spokesperson Yvette McCoy.
The group will be in front of the Walmart in Rockdale from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 12 collecting donated items. The items being collected include snacks, toiletries, books and lots more. “We will also be collecting new and gently used stuffed animals for Operation Huggables, which are donated to children of military parents when they are deployed,” McCoy said.

‘Bring the Monarchs’ to meet Tuesday in Milano
MILANO— The Bring Back the Monarchs Project will meet at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 8 at 300 West Avenue E in Milano, according to spokesperson Debbi Harris.
“Come volunteer to work in the garden and planting trees. Let’s see how many pollinators we have too,” Harris said. “Please bring your gloves a shovel and a rake. Your support will help the Milano Bailey Building Project.”

FFA meeting to feature game warden Mayer
Rockdale FFA will have their monthly meeting at 6 p.m. Monday, Oct 14 in the Ag building. Junior FFA meeting will start at 5 p.m.
“We will have snacks, a lesson and fun activities,” Madison Reynolds, chapter reporter said. “At 6 p.m. the FFA will introduce game warden Charlie Mayer who will be talking about gun safety.”
