Homecoming activities this week in Tigerland
It’s homecoming week at Rockdale High School.

Lost child found ‘okay’ after search by police, firefighters
A missing four-year- old boy was located Monday evening after a three-hour search by police and volunteer firefighters.
Lt. J. D. Newlin said the child was reported missing at 4:53 p.m. in the area of Alcoa and Coffield Streets and was located on Coffield Street, ending the search.
“He was next door to his house,” Newlin said. “He was fine.” Full Story

Weather alerts call out area’s law enforcement over weekend
Record September rainfall in South Milam County (see story page 1A) called out many of the county’s law enforcement personnel during the weekend.
The sheriff’s office was alerted to water pouring over US 79 just after midnight Saturday. The department had already answered a call to a stranded motorist on US 77 less than half an hour previously. Full Story

‘Escuelita’ fall cookoff Oct. 12th
The annual Fall Cookoff at La Escuelita, former Hispanic school east of the KC Hall on US 79, is set for Saturday, Oct. 12.
Dee Lerma, spokesperson, said the cookoff will feature menudo, chili and beef/chicken/pork categories.
While the cookoff begins at 8 a.m. Oct. 12, cookers can set up the night before or by 7:30 a.m. on the day of competition. Full Story

Intoxication assault charge for other driver
A 77-year- old motorcyclist received a serious hand injury in a collision with a vehicle Monday afternoon in Thorndale.
Thorndale Police Chief Martin Jackson said James Spinn was attempting to turn off US 79 onto Sydney Boulevard when he was struck from behind by a vehicle driven by Jack Marcotte, 50, of Cypress. Full Story

200 gather for Milano shelter dedication
New building began with Ike evacuees in ‘05
MILANO—A shelter for the needy. Members of the Milano community, mainly its volunteer fire department, saw it needed to happen and after five years and lots of hard work it has come to pass.
The 3,800 square-foot building was dedicated, consecrated and handed over to the Milano Volunteer Fire Department during ceremonies held Saturday with a crowd of over 200 in attendance. Full Story
