77-year-old cylist hurt in Thorndale

Intoxication assault charge for other driver

A 77-year- old motorcyclist received a serious hand injury in a collision with a vehicle Monday afternoon in Thorndale.

Thorndale Police Chief Martin Jackson said James Spinn was attempting to turn off US 79 onto Sydney Boulevard when he was struck from behind by a vehicle driven by Jack Marcotte, 50, of Cypress.

Jackson said both vehicle were eastbound when the 1:05 p.m. collision occurred.

“ The collision knocked over the motorcycle to the side of the road,” Jackson said.

Spinn, who is the father of Thorndale ISD Supt. Dr. Craig Spinn, was taken to Seton Williamson

Hospital in Round Rock for treatment of his injuries.

Jackson said Marcotte fled the scene and was apprehended later by Thorndale police, in connection with their investigation into the crash.

“He was charged with intoxication assault,” Jackson said.

The Thorndale Volunteer Fire Department was also called to the scene.
