Weather alerts call out area’s law enforcement over weekend

Record September rainfall in South Milam County (see story page 1A) called out many of the county’s law enforcement personnel during the weekend.

The sheriff’s office was alerted to water pouring over US 79 just after midnight Saturday. The department had already answered a call to a stranded motorist on US 77 less than half an hour previously.

Of f icers in South Mi lam reported numerous incidents of stalled out vehicles, noting that in some cases motorists drove around barricades placed to protect drivers.
