La Escuelita cookoff ahead on Saturday

The annual Fall Cookoff at La Escuelita, former Hispanic school east of the KC Hall on US 79, is set for Saturday.

Dee Lerma, spokesperson, said the cookoff will feature menudo, chili and beef/chicken/pork categories.

While the cookoff begins at 8 a.m. Oct. 12, cookers can set up the night before or by 7:30 a.m. on the day of competition.

Entry fee is $15 per category.

Horseshoe and washer tourneys start at noon, she said. Fee to enter is $15 per team.

A variety of music will be provided by Fred Silva.

Breakfast tacos will be sold from 8 to 10:30 a.m.

Lunch will be sold beginning at 11 a.m. and will include a brisket plate with potato salad, beans, bread, pickles and tea or water.

“Sodas will not be sold but you are welcome to bring your own,” Lerma said. “No glass please.”

Vendor space will be rented for $15 a booth. “No food vendors will be allowed,” she said.

Children’s games will also be featured.
