Town needs business like hog slaughter plant

Dear editor,

As bad a condition as the economy is in Rockdale, I think the city council should appreciate any business even considering moving to town as long as they were going to improve employment opportunities.

I’m referring to the slaughter plant. Sounds to me like some of the city council members have personal agendas for not wanting businesses to locate here.

Waco kept Caterpillar from building a major factory there because the city council didn’t want the basic wage base increased.

The rich get richer and the poor get poorer. The housing market around Rockdale could not be any worse then it is now.

The land/housing market is so over inflated around Rockdale it would take a major corporation moving into the area to restore any value to it.

From what I’ve seen in the short three years of living here, the one major business that built Rockdale, then left Rockdale, devastated the economy.

The only way to overcome this is to encourage all kinds of businesses to move to Rockdale.

More businesses equals more employment equals more money equals growth.
