89 get flu shots
It was a big turnout Friday at the KC Hall when the Milam County Health Department brought its flu shot clinic to Rockdale. Area resident Vernon Ferguson (left) getting his shot from Deborah Crawford, and 88 others took advantage of the opportunity to get immunized against the flu’s 2013 strains. Seven get 20th District Court sentences
CAMERON—Seven persons drew sentences last week in 20th District Court, according to Prosecutor Bill Torrey, who listed case dispositions as follows:
• Whitney Denise Glover, 27, Bremond, pleaded true to motion to revoke probation on an original charge of forgery of a financial instrument, 20-month state jail term. Full Story

‘Identity theft’ report made to local police
Rockdale police investigated a reported identity theft during the past week.
Lt. J. D. Newlin said a local resident was advised that an account in their name had been set up in an out-of-state bank. Full Story
A Milano ISD school board member was taken to Scott & White Hospital in Temple after her pickup left Cameron Avenue (US 79) in front of Citizens National Bank downtown Monday afternoon and crashed into a signal light support pole. Lynette Taylor, 46, remained hospitalized as of Tuesday afternoon. Full Story
Sheriff’s SIU drug raid nets arrest of Cameron man
The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) of the Milam County Sheriff’s Department completed an investigation into possible marijuana trafficking by executing a search warrant Oct. 2. Full Story

Cyclist hurt in Tuesday car collision
A Rockdale man was taken to Richards Memorial Hospital just before midnight Tuesday after his bicycle was in collision with a car.
Police said James Goss was riding the bicycle on East Cameron Avenue (US 79) when it was in collision with a 2003 Volkswagen driven by Seth Walker Smith, of Rockdale. Full Story
MEET THE 2013 MISS ROCKDALE FAIR QUEEN CONTESTANTS
One of these eight contestants will become the new Miss Rockdale Fair Queen in the annual beauty pageant sponsored by Rockdale Fair Association, part of the 2013 Fair activities. The pageant is set for 7:30 p.m. Saturday in the Rockdale High School auditorium. Full Story
It was definitely a family atmosphere Sunday when the Central Texas Firefighters and Fire Marshal’s district convention concluded at the Rockdale VFD Fire Station with pumper races. The weekend event also included a memorial service earlier in the day. Full Story
It was a busy week for Rockdale firefighters. In addition to responding to a pair of major wrecks (see pages 1A and 3A), firefighters hosted the annual Central Texas Firefighters and Fire Marshal’s district convention. The long-awaited waiver from federal Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) scores was granted for Texas school districts last week and that means the Rockdale ISD will be clear of any unfavorable campus or district test ratings through spring, 2014. Full Story
