Orasi out, city okays funding for events
No action in closed session on evaluation
Rockdale City Council members quickly ended the Orasi Era on Monday, reaching an “amicable separation” with the firm that managed several less-than-successful events last month.
Meeting in regular session at City Hall, the council took no action following an executive session that included a verbal evaluation of City Manager Kelvin Knauf. Full Story
Jerman new Miss Rockdale Fair
Ford, Reynolds runners-up for annual pageant
Jacey Jerman, a 17-year- old senior at Rockdale High School, was crowned Miss Rockdale Fair 2013 Saturday before a crowd of more than 550 in the Rockdale High School auditorium.
First runner-up at the annual pageant was Kelsey Ford and second runner up was Madison Reynolds. Full Story

The annual La Escuelita Fall Cookoff was held Saturday in a day-long celebration at the former school just east of Rockdale.

Milano Opry set to hit MHS stage Saturday
The Milano Opry will hold its monthly performance Saturday, Oct. 19 at Milano High School. Doors open at 6 p.m. and show starts at 7. Admission is $7, children 10 and under are free. Go early and grab a bite to eat, as they will have barbecue sandwiches and hamburgers for sale, as well as their famous homemade pies. Full Story
Rockdale moving up to Class 4A
While the University Interscholastic League’s bi-annual realignment is not due to be revealed until February, I’d like to go on record as reporting that Rockdale will move up to Class 4A.

A quick glance at Madisonville’s current record is a comprehensive study in strength of schedule.
The 4-3 Mustangs have suffered losses to Lorena, Fairfield and Navasota sandwiched around a three-game winning streak.
Lorena is a perennial playoff team, unbeaten Fairfield stopped Navasota’s 20-game winning streak and Navasota is, well, Navasota. Full Story
