Cattle, forage management talk Monday

A beef cattle and forage management seminar will be held at the Pridgeon Community Center in Franklin on Monday, Oct. 28. Seven CEU’s will be available for anyone needing hours to renew their private or commercial pesticide license. The hours available will include 4 General, 1 IPM, 1 Laws & Regulations, and 1 Drift.

Registration will begin at 7 a.m. with the program to begin promptly at 7:30 a.m. and running till 3 p.m.

Topics for the program will include “Farm Chemical Drift Control”, “Review of Local Laws and Regulations”, “Winter Beef Cattle Management”, Controlling Grasshoppers and Armyworms”, “Pasture Weed and Brush I.D.”, “Current and Future Dupont Weed & Brush Control Chemistry”, and “Current & Future Dow Weed & Brush Control Chemistry.”

Dr. Barron Rector will be presenting the Pasture Weed and Brush Control Program. He has asked that anyone that has a pasture plant they would like identified he will be at the program much of the day and will be available to identify your plants.

The cost for the program, meal, handouts and refreshments will be $50.

SPRING MAJOR LIVESTOCK LAMB/GOAT VALIDATION—Validation for Spring major show lambs and goats will be held from 4-6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29 behind the Youth Exhibition Building in Cameron. A parent will need to be present to sign paperwork. If a parent of the exhibitor is not able to be present, please contact our office prior to Oct. 25 so that the paperwork can be prepared and necessary signatures be obtained. This validation is for anyone who has ordered tags and plans to exhibit sheep or goats at Fort Worth, San Angelo, San Antonio, Houston or Star of Texas livestock shows.

MAJOR SHOW ENTRIES—Anyone interested in entering spring major livestock shows through 4-H need to be preparing to enter their livestock. Entry deadlines will be as follows completed and to the Milam County Extension Office. Fort Worth Livestock Show deadline is 5 p.m., Friday, Nov. 1. Deadline for San Antonio, San Angelo, Houston and Austin livestock shows is 5 p.m. Nov. 15.

Please note the date on the website is different than what is posted above. All junior entries must be entered as one group through the extension office. This early deadline gives us time to process entries and ensure they are accurate. If you have any questions, please call our office at 254-697-7045.
