Wow! Heifer sale doubles in one year

$146,500 raised as show grows to triple digits

Reporter/Mike Brown The skyrocketing success of the Rockdale Fair’s commercial heifer show continued in 2013 as Saturday’s sale raised $146,500 for area FFA and 4-H youth.

That’s more than double the 2012 total of $64,345. It’s also more than the 2011 and 2012 sales combined.

The sale was expanded from 12 to 24 entries this year.

Results were listed as follows:

Grand champion— Mason Leifeste, Cameron 4-H, buyer, Webberville Propane Inc. for $5,800, plus $525 added money, total $6,325.

Reserve champion— Garrett Reid, Gause 4-H, buyer, Keith Debault for $6,400, plus $445 added money, total $6,845.

3rd place—Colton Coufal, Cameron 4-H, buyer, James and Birdie Kristoff, $6,600, plus $440 added money, total $7,040.

4th place—Keenan Mingus, Cameron Jr. FFA, buyer, Coker Bulldozing, $5,800, plus $2,365 added money, total $8,165.

5th place—Marino Cardona, Cameron 4-H, buyer, Bar- F-Bar Ranch, $5,800, plus $1,415 added money, total, $7,215.

6th place—Garrett Pounders, Rockdale FFA, buyer, Dr. Alan Zschech, $6,000, plus $915 added money, total, $6,915.

7th place—Macie Vaculin, Cameron 4-H, buyer, Keith Debault, $5,000, plus $365 added money, total, $5,365.

8th place—Chandler Barton, Cameron 4-H, buyer, Cross Six Ranch, $5,200, plus $1,000 added money, total $6,200.

9th place—Wesley Payne, Rockdale FFA, buyer, Biar Farms, $5,600, plus $1,700 added money, total $7,300.

10th place—Preston Debault, Rockdale 4-H, buyer, James and Birdie Kristoff, $6,000, plus $865 added money, total $6,865.

11th place—Paul Heintze, Rockdale FFA, buyer, Leon and Coty Jo Love, $5,000, plus $1,765 added money, total $6,765.

12th place—Travis Morgan, Rockdale FFA, buyer, Custom Tack, $5,800, plus $715 added money, total, $6,515.

13th place—Mason Vaculin, Cameron Junior FFA, buyer, Jimmie and Judy Kopriva, $5,800, plus $390 added money, total, $6,190.
