American Legion to hold motorcycle run Nov. 9
Rockdale American Legion Carlyle Post 358 will host a motorcycle fun run on Saturday, Nov. 9 as a fund-raiser to help with the completion of the new post building.
Registration will start at 10 a.m. at the VFW Post in Rockdale (West US 79), with the first bike out at 11:30 a.m and last bike in at 5 p.m. Cost is $20 for single rider ($25 with passenger). T-shirts for the event will be available for $20.
Riders will start from VFW Post 6525 and make stops at Brushy Creek Bar in Thorndale, Cactus Rose Bar in Taylor, Apache Pass Bar & Grill on FM 908 north of Rockdale, Noack Bar and Cliff’s Tavern.
Food will be provided at the end of the run at the VFW Post and there will also be an auction.

American Legion, KCs ‘Casino Night’ Nov. 16
American Legion Carlyle Post 358 and Rockdale Knights of Columbus Council 7014 will co-host a “Casino Night” on Saturday, Nov. 16 at the KC Hall, on US 79 just east of Rockdale.
Cost is $100 per player and $25 for non-players. No one under age 21 will be admitted. A limited amount of tickets are available for pre-sale.
Grand prize will be $2,500 and there will also be 25 $100 prizes. A meal and drink tickets are included in the admission charge.
Doors will open at 6 p.m. Games begin at 7 p.m. and last until the 11 p.m. auction.

Historical Society to serve chili Nov. 16
Rockdale Historical Society will hold its annual chili supper from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 16 at the New Salem Clubhouse at Fair Park.
The meal will feature homemade chili and desserts, available to eat in or take out. There will also be a silent auction of locally- crafted items.
All proceeds from this annual event benefit the historic Rockdale I&GN Depot Museum.
Sunshine quilters to meet Thursday
Sunshine ‘n Shadows Quilt Guild will meet at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 24 at Meadowbrook Baptist Church fellowship hall. Members will be working on individual projects. The VA medicine bags made last month were a big success. Visitors are welcome. FMI: Eddie Davidson, 512-446-6316.
Place of Hope sets first Run for Life’ Nov. 16
Place of Hope Pregnancy and Resource Center will host a “Run for Life 5K Diaper Dash” on Saturday, Nov. 16, starting and ending on Bell Street behind its building at 231 E. Cameron Ave. in Rockdale (also behind the post office).
Registration will start at 8 a.m. that morning with a kids half-mile run at 9 a.m. and the 5K run/walk/phantom for adults starting at 9:30 a.m. There will be cash prizes for top winners.
Entry fees is $20 before Nov. 8 and $25 after Nov. 8. The kids run entry fee is $10 before Nov. 8 and $12 after that date.

Annual Buddy Oney Toy Run set December 7
The 8th annual “Buddy Oney” Toy Run, sponsored by The Bad To The Bone Riders of Rockdale, will be held Saturday, Dec. 7 at The Ranch, 415 W. Hwy 79, in Rockdale, according to organizer Charles Starr.
This annual ride in honor of the Late Buddy Oney benefits the needy children of all Milam County by giving 100 percent of the proceeds to Milam County Child Protective Services and the Rockdale Christmas Roundup.
Registration begins at 9 a.m. with first bike out at 11 a.m. Ride fee is $15 for rider ($20 with passenger) or a new toy valued at $20. Ride fee includes food after ride for all participants of the ride.
Long-sleeve ride souvenir T-shirts will be for sale by pre-order only for $25. Order deadline is Nov. 4 and orders can be placed by contacting Cynthia Ferrell at 512- 698-2784. Short sleeve shirts will be available on the day of the ride for $20.
The ride stops will be at Bob’s Steak House in Cameron, Cliff’s Tavern in Rockdale, Cyndi’s Hawg Hang Out in Hogg, Nat’s in Milano and The Ranch in Rockdale. The last bike in will be at 4:30 p.m. at The Ranch.
“At this point we will have a meal provided by Brady’s Pest Control and Crew. We will also have a 50/ 50 drawing, DJ music and door prizes,” Starr said.

‘Team Tammy’ costume contest, dance Oct. 31
MILANO—”Team Tammy,” a Relay For Life team from Milano, will host a costume party and dance Thursday, Oct. 31 at the Milano Civic Center, 400 W. Avenue E in downtown Milano, team captain Tammy Storey announced.
The team will offer dinner while trick- or-treating, offering hot dog meals for sale (two hot dogs, chips and drink for $5) starting at 5 p.m. at the civic center.
Admission for the dance is $3 per person, with ages three and under getting in free.
Costume contest at 8 p.m. Age divisions: 5 and under, 6-12, 13 and up (including adults). Prizes for top male and female in each division. A silent auction will also be held.
Proceeds from the event will benefit the American Cancer Society.
