Nov. 12 meeting slated to choose a successor

Whitmire Whitmire With a full 2014 election season looming, the man who led the Milam County Republican party to its greatest successes ever, is stepping down from his count y chai r post.

Bill Whitmire of Milano announced he resigned last Tuesday during the regular monthly meeting of the Milam County Republican Party executive committee.

The executive commit tee appointed vice-chair Kyle Deal to serve in an interim position until a new county chair can be named at the committee’s Nov. 12 meeting.

Whitmire chaired the party since October, 2009, during which Republicans bounced back from generations of county election futility and claimed a number of Milam posts, including county judge, sheriff and two commissioner positions.

Whitmire said the resignation was “necessary in order to pursue further endeavors not possible if I remain county chairman.”

“ I am extremely proud of how much we have been able to accomplishasa unifiedgroup,” Whitmire said. “What started as a few individuals working to bring quality government to Milam County has grown into a large and effective movement... My decision comes after great consideration and reflection.”
