PUBLIC PURSUIT—



Lt. J. D. Newlin cuffs a suspect at the end of a Thursday vehicle pursuit that ended near the corner of Cameron (US 79) and Green in downtown Rockdale. Robert Chance Baxter, 34, of Rockdale was charged with aggravated assault and possession of a controlled substance and remains jailed on $38,000 bond. Newlin said a 51-year-old man was struck in the head with a baseball bat. A vehicle reported leaving the scene was located and pursued by Sgt. Adam Assaker and Ofc. Albert Diver. Newlin said the victim received “seven or eight staples in his head, lost a considerable amount of blood,” and was kept overnight at Austin Seton Hospital and released.
