More murder trial jury selection
An additional round of jury selection is scheduled to begin Monday in the capital murder trial of Brandon Charles Cotton.
Cotton is scheduled to go on trial Dec. 2 in 20th District Court for the April 25, 2011, shotgun slaying of Sandra “Sandy” Phillips of San Gabriel.
A jury call of 500 potential jurors was held Oct. 15 in Cameron’s Williams Civic Center, beginning the “jury qualification” procedure.
That’s a process to determine how potential jurors view the death penalty, which Milam County Prosecutor Bill Torrey is seeking.
On Monday attorneys for the prosecution and the defense are scheduled to continue the process by conducting interviews with individual jurors.
Cotton and Tanner Aaron Baker are charged in connection with the slaying. A decision on whether to seek the death penalty for Baker has not yet been announced by Torrey.
