Davis

CAMERON—Graveside services for John H. Davis, 95, of Temple, formerly of Cameron, were held Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2013, at Oak Hill Pavilion in Cameron with Rev. Doug Budd officiating.

Mr. Davis died Saturday, Oct. 19, in a Temple nursing facility.

He was born May 13, 1918, in Tracy to John H. Davis and Myra Gilleland Davis.

Growing up in Milam County, he graduated from C.H. Yoe High School and Massey Business College in Houston.

Mr. Davis returned to Cameron and began his career at Citizens National Bank.

He married Grace Markham in 1939.

Mr. Davis served in the 307th Infantry Division during World War II and received the Purple Heart for wounds received on Okinawa.

Returning to Cameron after the war, he resumed his employment with Citizens National Bank where he spent 45 years and retired as president.

Mr. Davis was an elder of First Presbyterian Church and a member of many civic organizations.

Survivors are a son, John H. Davis Jr. and wife Sue K. of Hamilton County; a grandson, Jeffrey D. Davis of Houston; a granddaughter, Jennifer D. Sanders of Austin; and three great-grandchildren, Bryant A. Davis of Houston, Alyssa Sanders and Tommy Sanders, both of Austin.

The burn ban for Milam County has been lifted. Burning is always prohibited in the county's municipalities.
