Spanish AOG to meet at Emmaus Project
Spanish Assembly of God will hold its 11 a.m. English-language worship service this week outdoors at the Emmaus Project, 901 E. Belton Street.
For several months, Spanish Assembly of God has been supporting the ministry with a team of volunteers. The service will give first-time visitors a chance to learn about both groups.
A barbecue lunch is planned after the service.
“This is an opportunity to take advantage of the beautiful fall weather, praise God in the open air, and enjoy great praise music,” said Brad Owens, Emmaus executive director.
The church’s praise team, Holy Peculiar, includes Mike and Gloria Zapata, Mike Zapata Jr., Chris Rubio and Janice Cowen.
Emmaus is a ministry cooperative that provides meals to people in need, builds wheelchair ramps, supports prison ministries, and does other community projects. Emmaus has served more than 13,000 meals since being founded four years ago.
St. John’s UMC to honor veterans here on Sunday
St. John’s United Methodist Church will host a worship service at 11 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 10 “to praise God and honor all area veterans,” Rev. Adam Straznicky, pastor, announced.
“All veterans are invited to attend this special service to recognize, remember and honor veterans for all they have given to our country over the years,” Rev. Straznicky said. “ This event is hosted by Family Matters, and we would love to give grandparents, parents, children, and spouses the opportunity to honor the veterans in their families.”
Mini revival Nov. 20-22 at New Hope Baptist
Wednesday through Friday, Nov. 20-22, New Hope Baptist Church, 327 East 3rd Street in Rockdale, will hold a mini-revival at 7 p.m. Pastor T. C. Collins of Canaan Baptist Church in Lufkin will bring the message nightly.
New Hope Baptist Church is holding “Worshiping Wednesdays” at 7 p.m. through Nov. 13 with the message being brought by local ministers, according to Deborah Crawford, publicist.
Gospel singing set Saturday at Calvary BC
“The Country Preacher,” Rev. Leslie Adams, invites everyone to a gospel singing from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9 at Calvary Baptist Church, 1443 South FM 487.
“We will have fellowship after the singing,” Rev. Adams, pastor at Calvary Baptist, said.
Pleasant Retreat UMC revival to start Sunday
THORNDALE— Pleasant Retreat United Methodist Church invites the public to revival services at 7 p.m. Sunday through Wednesday, Nov. 10-13.
Speakers will be Cindy Doran of Lufkin on Sunday, Dale Jamerson of Jacksonville on Monday, and Larry Caldwell of Thorndale on Tuesday.
Special music will be presented nightly by David Ling and the Pleasant Retreat choir.
Wednesday will feature a concert by Miles Pike, an award-winning Southern Gospel/Country music artist who has had four consecutive No. 1 songs in Christian Voice magazine and three No 1 songs in Cashbox magazine.

Women’s prayer breakfast Nov. 16 at Allen Chapel
All women of the community are invited to Allen Chapel AME Church’s first annual Woman’s Prayer Breakfast at 9 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 16. The church is located at 216 East Third Street in Rockdale.
Breakfast theme will be “Giving Thanks to God for Another Day’s Journey.” Speaker will be Myrtle Johnson from Progressive Missionary Baptist Church of Cameron.
Breakfast donation is $10.
‘Christmas Child’ drive under way at First Baptist
First Baptist Church in Rockdale is again sponsoring a Samaritan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child gift drive.
“A shoe box is filled with small gifts for a child by you and the box will go to an Operation Christmas Child processing center and then sent to children around the world,” said Barbara Clark, publicist. “We have information kits on how to fill the shoe boxes and extra shoe boxes. If an organization, classroom, club, business, church or individual wants to fill one or more boxes, please call the church.”
Collections days are Nov. 18-25 from 10 a.m. to noon and 2 to 4 p.m. weekdays, 10 a.m. to noon Saturday and Sunday, with extra 5 to 7 p.m. hours on Wednesday and 6-7 p.m. Sunday, also 8 to 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 25.

An ecumenical monthly men’s Christian fellowship breakfast is held from 7 until 8 a.m. each second Tuesday, the site rotating between several local churches.
Next breakfast will Tuesday, Nov. 12 at St. John’s United Methodist Church, Summit at Hillcrest in Rockdale.
“Purpose is Christian fellowship and all men of the Rockdale area are invited,” said Bill Avrett, spokesman.
Community outreach banquet November 16
